Emma Watson’s Gothic Look For the ‘Little Women’ NYC Premiere Is Setting Winter's Biggest Trend
Emma Watson, who hasn’t been seen on a red carpet since March 2018, really made a statement for her new movies’ premier.
With a neo-gothic meets vampire look, Emma Waston proved wrong all those who thought they couldn’t wear thigh-high boots and a long dress.
Waston wore a black high-low Balenciaga gown with velvet thigh-high boots, a black shell-shaped clutch bag and Fre Leighton silver earrings.
Her last red carpet ensemble, for the 2018 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party does show that Emma is a fan of black and velvet for the red carpet, there is something about her most recent look that has got people talking.
For the ‘Little Women’ premier Waston’s Balenciaga dress, both shapeless and sleeveless is said to have coast $5,200. The gown had ruffled lace across the chest but what really caught people’s attention was her choice to pull the dress up on one side to reveal her showstopping boots. The boots, also from Balenciaga are said to cost $2,050 and are set to be one of this winters biggest trends.
Watson plays Meg March in the film and spoke to British Vogue a month ago about the character. “With Meg’s character, her way of being a feminist is making the choice—because that’s really, for me anyway, what feminism is about,” Watson said. “Her choice is that she wants to be a full-time mother and wife. To Jo [Saoirse Ronan], being married is really some sort of prison sentence. But Meg says, ‘You know, I love him [John Brooke, who is played by James Norton] and I’m really happy and this is what I want. And just because my dreams are different from yours, it doesn’t mean they’re unimportant.”
Watson also discussed her situation of being single as she approaches 30, creating the title ‘self-partnered’ that has since gone viral.
“I was like, ‘Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal…’” she started. “Cut to 29, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious. And I realize it’s because there is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around. If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out… There’s just this incredible amount of anxiety.”
“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she continued. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”
