Bardot Dresses

A bardot dress sits off the shoulders and frames your collarbone. It feels feminine and dressy straight away. Most of ours are fitted pencil shapes made in England. You will also find swing styles and a few long dresses. Choose plain colours, prints or lace. They are a favourite for weddings, the races and summer parties. Sizes run from S to XXL.

What is a bardot neckline?

It is a wide neckline that sits across the top of your arms. Both shoulders are bare. It takes its name from Brigitte Bardot, who made it famous.

Some styles add a fold-over edge or a bow. The Brittany and Luma have bow details. The Strand finishes with a bow tie. The ToTo and Florence keep a clean, classic line.

Shapes and fabrics in this edit

Pencil styles like the Estonia and Felicity hug the figure. The Moonlight adds a peplum at the waist. For a fuller skirt, look at the Portobello and Islay swing dresses. For black-tie, the Othello is an off-the-shoulder maxi.

Ripple Crepe is the main fabric here. It is light and drapes well. You will also find Moss Crepe, Bi-Stretch, satin prints and lace.

How to wear a bardot dress

  • Wear a strapless or multiway bra.
  • Put your hair up to show off the neckline.
  • Choose statement earrings rather than a necklace.
  • Bring a bolero or cropped jacket for the ceremony.

Which bardot dress suits your body?

A bardot neckline widens the shoulders a little. That balances fuller hips beautifully. If you have a larger bust, choose a pencil style with structure through the bodice. If you want more cover on the arms, try a style with sleeves.

Every bardot dress here is made in England. Our pattern cutters shape the neckline so it sits flat, without gaping.

Prints are a big part of this edit. The Eliza comes in vintage rose, triangles and animal prints. The Alpa has a wide printed band. Prefer plain? The Lyrical is a simple black off-shoulder dress.
