How to Wear Houndstooth - and Where to Get the Houndstooth Dress of 2022!

A whole lot of history…. Houndstooth has an interesting origin. In fact, the pattern itself goes back to the 19th century in Scotland. Where the Houndstooth pattern we wear today has a more contemporary history, we can see how the beginnings of it formed into the design we know and love today. To begin, initially, the use of houndstooth was adopted by the upper class as a status symbol for wealth. Where the much loved original Houndstooth consists of two colours: black and white, the classic pattern has, over the years, went through reinvention with new shades and combinations. Yet it remains the same pattern that we all know and love.   Different types of houndstooth As mentioned, houndstooth primarily focused on two colours: black and white. However, over the years, different colour palettes have infused themselves into designers' wardrobes. From stunning emerald Houndstooth skirts to a green co-ord boucle tailored blazer and from an NA-KD x Rianne Meijer Collab High Neck Jumper to a Clueless-inspired flat pocket pelmet skirt. The colour combinations really are unlimited. Where to wear houndstooth? Just like a lot of our favourite patterns, you can wear Houndstooth pretty much anywhere and at any time. You can simply wear a houndstooth skirt to the office and then when you get home slip into these adorable houndstooth pyjamas. Here we’re going to go through a few of our favourite houndstooth designs, including our own as well as others, and how you can get your hands on them!   Houndstooth dresses with Sleeves At present, we stock 3 gorgeous houndstooth dresses. These include the Braemar, the Nadia Stretch Perro and the Lindy Stretch Perro dress. Each has a different design and offers its own unique shape. Lindy Pencil Dress Our Lindy Stretch Perro dress features the much-loved houndstooth pattern on the top half, with a full black skirt to finish. Made using our stretch Perro and bi-stretch fabric, we adore its knitted jacquard design and the contrasting look of the printed houndstooth top half. It's the perfect dress for keeping the look classic if you're not yet feeling ready to opt for the full-houndstooth-dress look. Braemar Pencil Dress Our chic Braemar dress consists of our super stretch fabric with an empire line tie waistband, full houndstooth pattern, three-quarter length sleeves, a round neckline and a concealed zip. Nadia Perro ¾ Sleeved Dress The Nadia Perro three-quarter sleeved dress is made using stretch Perro jersey jacquard and bi-stretch fabric. Being in knitted style, with a jacquard design, it styles perfectly as a pencil dress. The dress has an empire waistline which allows the design to be layered and further accentuates the waist. What's more, the dress also features pleating across the front for a flattering fit and a round neckline with slit detail. Alternative Houndstooth If you’re looking to invest in a statement Houndstooth piece then look no further than this Heritage Embellished Check Knitted Swing Dress from Karen Milan. Priced at an impressive £78, down from £155, this chic high neck dress pairs perfectly with the boots pictured or you could even opt to wear it with high top Converse. If, however, you're looking for a bit more bang for your buck then we found this cute Dorothy Perkins number that is currently on sale, down to £32. With its low V-neck and puffed sleeve style, it's easy to wear and effortlessly chic. Houndstooth long sleeve tops Whether you’d like to match your houndstooth print top with a solid-block trouser, or a contrasting print, is completely up to you. The benefit of choosing the houndstooth design for your top is that you’re free to use minimal accessories.  Here we go through a few of our favourite houndstooth long sleeve tops and where you can get them too! Tamar Top at Diva Catwalk Our Tamar top consists of Stretch Perro Jersey Jacquard material, with a turtle high neck and long-sleeved. Perfectly paired with our Pebble Stretch Perro Skirt or, alternatively, you could go with a block colour like our SEED Elixir skirt or Rhodes Pencil Skirt. Both are available in over 10 shades! Alternative Houndstooth Tops If you're looking for a houndstooth wrap top and fall into the categories of either tall, curved or petite, then Dorothy Perkins has you covered this Spring. The houndstooth printed shirred cuff wrap top features a low V-neck design and unlike other wrap tops it is not longline, so could be paired with trousers and skirts alike. Houndstooth skirts Wearing a skirt can be perfect all year round. Whether it is to the office or out for a meal, comfort is essential and that’s why our Stretch Perro Skirt with Houndstooth pattern is made using Perro Jersey jacquard fabric. Comfort and style. With a concealed zip at the back, this knee-length skirt goes perfect with the matching top or a colour block blouse like our SEED Hambledon top or our Pacific top. With seven shades to choose from you’re sorted for every day of the week! Alternative Houndstooth Skirts Skirts in this type of pattern are always popular, so it’s no surprise that we found quite a few favourites to add to our ever-growing shopping list. To begin, we found this rather expensive (but oh-so-cute) Tommy Hilfiger mini skirt that, just like the shacket below, is made from recycled wool jacquard. Whilst being a mini skirt in length it is also a regular fit. If you’d prefer something a little bit longer, say for the office, then we have our eye on this long line multi-coloured knit midi skirt from River Island. And when we say we love the colour… know we LOVE the colour!   Houndstooth Coats Now, just because the winter season is (slowly) leaving us it doesn't mean that jackets do too! Opting for cooling blazers or lightweight coats is perfect for when you never know if you'll need them! One of our newly spotted favourites is this Mango Meghan Houndstooth Check Blazer, available at John Lewis. One option, for when you’re shopping for a cover-up between February and September, is a shacket. A combination of shirt/jacket works brilliantly at keeping away a breeze but won’t have you melt under the sun. A couple of our favourites include this Houndstooth Shacket from Dorothy Perkins (£50, down to £40) and this Recycled Wool Flannel Houndstooth Shacket from Tommy Hilfiger (£210, down to £147) available in sizes UK4 to UK18.   An even lighter option is a cardigan. We found two readily available for Spring. One, from New Look at ASOS.com, £27.99 and the second, on sale for £77 at thekemist.com.     Houndstooth Bags And finally, last but by no means least, is the houndstooth accessory. The bag. Whether you’re wearing houndstooth or opting to contrast your patterns, we all need a houndstooth print in our closets!     A few of our favourites include this Houndstooth Backpack from River Island – great for those student essentials or parent duty! Alternatively, we've also found this super cute small shoulder bag from HM (currently down to £12 from £17!). Not only does it have two handles and a detachable shoulder strap but it has a zipped inner compartment too. What more could you want from a mini bag?    Have you enjoyed this article? How to wear Floral All Through the Year

Many items continually appear on-trend, jeans for example. And just like denim, floral prints and patterns are on-trend every season. Floral prints always work whether you choose to wear them on a dress, a top, on trousers or as part of your accessories. Here we're going to delve into the world of floral prints and where you can get your hands on each item. Floral dresses with sleeves There is just something about pairing floral patterns with dresses that instantly brings us into summer, even if it’s the middle of November! With so many patterns and designs available you’re really spoiled for choice when looking for floral dresses. Here we go through a few of our favourite sleeved floral prints to suit everybody. First up, we found this feminine lace-up waist midaxi dress. With a white rose floral design, blouson sleeves and a plunge neck we knew we were onto a winner! Just like the model pictured we'd opt for nude/white stilettos or if you’re looking for something a bit more comfortable to walk in we liked the look of these Hampton Block Mid-Heel Sandals, also ASOS. For our next suggestion, we thought we’d go into the office, something you can wear from office to restaurant is the perfect dress for us, we think!  Our Diva Catwalk Eliza Contour Stretch 3/4 Sleeved dress is perfect. It comes in three stunning designs, including wildflower [pictured], waterlily and dancing fire. You could pair the dress with some KG nude courts, similar to those in the photo, or you could opt for these elegant navy heels that go nicely with the blue in the dress. With it dropping to just below the knee, it also offers an off-shoulder Bardot neckline, wrap hem detail and, of course, a vent at the centre back for ease of movement. We're nothing if the key to comfort with our fashion choices! Floral Tops for Spring Just because we’re slowly heading into Spring and can’t yet fully see summer, it doesn’t mean we can’t indulge in a little floral print on her tops. If the colder days put you off bearing your legs, so you opt for trousers, then you can be sure to find cute floral tops to put you back in the right lane. Our Branscombe top comes in two available patterns, one being this stylish Floral Mist Navy. Perfectly paired with navy or black trousers, you can be sure to make the right impression. Alternatively, we also have the Branscombe top in print which is Floral Taupe. It's a cotton blend print with a loose knot tie at the front, 3/4 sleeves and a gather detailing under the bust. Perfect for going from office to drinks. Both of these tops are currently on sale for £49 and £59, respectively.   If you're looking for a more relaxed, casual ruffle floral blouse then we loved the look of this Lipsy number that comes in two different patterns (blue and pink). [pictured above] They’re perfect for everyday wear, and you also have the option to pair them with their very own skirt. Floral Trousers If you're the type of person who likes to wear prints, but subtle, then it's unlikely you'll have approached wearing them in trousers. However, we have found the most gorgeous pair of floral trousers that we predict will become a bestseller in the coming seasons. These Boden 'Pull-On Trousers' come in various shades. Our favourite is the black colour with the 'rainbow floral' print. Perfectly paired with a solid colour tank and a similarly shaded blazer, these trousers could be worn ideal with stiletto heels, court heels or even flat Converse. Alternatively, if you’d prefer to play it safe then there are plenty of other floral designed trousers that show flower-power without the bright colours.   Floral Coats Whether it’s the height of winter or those summer evenings, if you’re in the UK then chances are you’re going to need a coat. So why not make it floral? At Diva Catwalk we stock this cute short floral jacket, which is perfect for spring/summer. The Fresno jacket, in shade Nightshade Bloom, has a flattering slightly-cropped fit. It’s a faultless choice when choosing to pair it with a pencil dress to keep things formal or with an oversized shirt and jeans for a casual vibe. Next, we have this Monsoon Ditsy Floral Quilted Jacket which was made for springtime. With cute florals decorating the lightly quilted coat and a round neckline, it goes perfectly with either a high or low neckline dress/top. Alternatively, if we’re experiencing the wet side of those summer days (which do happen, we know!) then like the look of this detachable sleeved coat. Besides it being such a stunning floral print it is also ideal for mid-year when we just don’t know what to wear! With optional long sleeves, you can simply remove them and wear the coat as a puffed Gillet. With a high collar, press-stud fastening, side pockets and elasticated cuffs, you have everything you need in a coat to get you through all seasons of the year.   Floral accessories for hair Whether you choose to wear your floral patterns in your outfit or accessories, there are always spaces to add your floral fix to your hair.  One of our favourite ways to easily implement floral patterns on your hair is by wearing a headband, like this cute gingham print from ASOS. Another cute way to implement floral into your hair, which looks perfect day or night, is to wear a back hair crown. A back hair crown is exactly like it sounds, it’s worn over the top of the head but instead of weighing over 1kg it weighs the same as a necklace or bracelet. Each hair crown sits elegantly on top of the hair, towards the back, and can come with or without a headband to attach around your head.  A few of our favourite head crowns, that are perfect for spring/summer, include this ASOS Back Hair Crown with pearl and floral detail. Additionally, we also loved this Mini Floral Hair Crown from Coast. It’s perfect for those days at the beach, carnival or even when attending a summer wedding.   Floral Bags Having a floral pattern on your bag can mean it can be worn in various ways. Whether you want to combine a floral look with a similar bag is your own choice, however, we also think a statement floral bag looks amazing with a staple solid colour outfit. We found a few floral bags that we love the look of, including this 60s, inspired Radley London Finsbury Park medium multiway available from Next. If bold, bright colours are your thing then we think this river island tote bag is perfect for day trips or just popping out for coffee. In fact, should a tote bag is what you’re after then we also have this ASOS Becksöndergaard floral shopper bag in our basket. And finally, if you prefer to opt for a rucksack then we have our eyes on this Vans Realm Field Floral. The bag has internal pockets, an organiser panel and a laptop sleeve - so it's ideal if you're at school/college. But, it also has the best space available should you be using it as a mum or to get you to the office and back with those daily essentials. Have you enjoyed this article? Covering Up the Dots Whether you choose the orchid or sky blue shades, we feel that our Seed Raquella A-line coats are a must! We suggest our magenta mist and dawn indigo shades to pair with our polka dot numbers. Although both shades are not the chosen shade of each dress, they do complement each colour perfectly. If, however, you’d prefer to keep the cover-up minimal, we also have the Weston bolero (here & here) in twelve further shades. Alternatively, our Dawlish jacket (that comes in 3 shades) is made to flatter any body shape with its peplum effect.
